Come to build vibes

Although physically distant, Australia has been fortunate to see at least some greats of the Jamaican music scene pass through. But it’s a first this month when a Bobo Shanti artist – part of that late ’90s fyah burning Rasta revival in reggae music – touches down in Sydney town.

Born Andre Johnson in Manchester, Jamaica, Jah Mason first recorded in 1992 for Junior Reid – Selassie I Name Me A Call – before coming through Capleton’s David House family and associating with Tony Rebel and Jah Cure.

He balances a ‘fire brand’ deejay style – think Capleton, Sizzla and Anthony B – with a strong and melodic singing voice.

‘Fire’ Mason has worked with all the big musicians and producers in Jamaica, having releases on labels like Stone Love, Harmony House, Flames, Ghetto Youths and HMG and hit songs like Princess Gone, Run Come Love Me Tonight (with Jah Cure) and Mi Chalwa.

This dynamic Rasta chanter has toured extensively in Jamaica, Europe and the Americas and is known for his strong and energetic stage performance.

Now it is Sydney’s turn to rise the flame!
